Dumfries and Galloway MP and Scottish Secretary Alister Jack has praised everyone involved with the annual Relay for Life.
He said: "It is a fact that most people in Dumfries and Galloway will have had personal experience or had a relative or friend diagnosed with one or more of the many types of cancer.
"Cancer Research UK have played an integral part in efforts to expand knowledge and help develop new treatments which means today more people than ever are successfully treated, a significant number making a full recovery.
"There is an excellent record of charity fund-raising in Stranraer and the rest of Wigtownshire and that generosity shone through at the Relay for Life at Bladnoch Park at the weekend with the amount raised so far this year exceeding £26,000.
"Participants from across the region, including cancer survivors, enjoyed the camaraderie of joining their team for periods during what was a 24-hour round-the-clock event.
"I’d like to congratulate all those, past and present, involved in the Relay for Life during the last 15 years on contributing to the impressive combined fund-raising total over that period of £650,000. It’s quite a milestone."
