New home will help Men's Shed develop
Men's Sheds have been a great success in Dumfries and Galloway and worldwide in recent years.
It is a movement which has grown organically and proven to have benefits far beyond its core mission to provide a meeting place, activities and preventing isolation amongst mainly older men.
Shortly after I was first elected as local MP I visited Dumfries Men's Shed at their current premises in Noblehill Park and was greatly impressed by what I saw.
Members share skills, exchange ideas and importantly enjoy the camaraderie of working together in a range of activities, including projects supporting the wider community and young people.
I've been pleased to see Men's Sheds also develop elsewhere in the constituency and will continue to assist them in any way I can.
Having written a letter in support of Dumfries Men's Shed, I was delighted to learn this week they have secured larger two-storey premises in Cresswell Gardens, around a mile from their current wooden premises.
Dumfries and Galloway Council has approved a plan for a Community Asset Transfer of the 'Wendy House' building and grounds, a former Children's Family Centre.
A wise investment in the future of the Shed, which already has around 70 members.
A job well done
Wild and disruptive conditions in recent days again demonstrate the valuable work carried out by emergency, medical, care and other services, who go above and beyond in efforts to keep our region safe whatever the weather throws at us.
