Alister Jack, Dumfries and Galloway MP and Secretary of State for Scotland, said:
"The breadth of operations carried out by our forces and their can-do approach to challenging tasks are just a few of the reasons they are acknowledged as being amongst the most professional in the world.
"This Saturday, Armed Forces Day, the valuable work carried out by all our servicemen and women and their ongoing contribution to the well-being of our country will rightfully be celebrated, although in a less visible way because of Covid-19 precautions.
"Our region has long been a recruiting ground for all branches of the forces and is home to Ministry of Defence facilities and jobs. The area also regularly plays host to exercises involving UK armed services and those from other NATO nations.
"The flexibility of our services was illustrated to me recently when I was privileged to meet members from Balaklava Company, 5 Scots, whilst they were doing an excellent job operating a coronavirus mobile testing centre in the region.
"My thanks go to all our servicemen and women, past and present. You are, and have been, truly a force for good."
