Dear Constituent,
I support the actions that both of Scotland’s governments have taken to protect people experiencing and fearing homelessness at this difficult time. Particularly valuable are the new laws that will protect renters from eviction for six months, and the UK Government’s commitment to increase the rate of housing benefit and Universal Credit.
No one should be faced with the prospect of rough sleeping. This issue has been raised with the Scottish Government and I have been assured that my colleagues will continue to advocate for suitable accommodation arrangements for people experiencing homelessness.
I welcome the work from councils across Scotland to set up response teams that prioritise the wellbeing of those experiencing homelessness, and I commend the work of third sector organisations that protect those who are most vulnerable to homelessness.
Thank you again for taking the time to contact me.
Kind regards, Alister
